NanoPattern raises $1.5M in seed round, welcomes new board members

March 22 2024 | Chicago IL - NanoPattern Technologies, Inc. has successfully closed an equity seed round lead by Queen City Angels for $1.5M. NanoPattern Technologies’ Board

As a part of this raise, NanoPattern is excited to welcome the new board members joining cofounders Dr. Yu Kambe and Dr. Dmitri Talapin. The three new board members bring valuable experience in commercialization as well as project management improving NanoPattern’s timeline and efficiency towards commercializing a resin free quantum dot ink for the electronics industry.

Homer Antoniadis, PhD – Dr. Antoniadis is a distinguished leader in display technology and product development, specializing in bridging cutting-edge display and nanomaterial technologies from research and development to large-scale commercialization. With extensive experience managing commercial teams and a successful acquisition under his belt, Dr. Antoniadis has made significant contributions to the industry.

Previously serving as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Nanosys Inc., Dr. Antoniadis spearheaded commercialization efforts and led research initiatives in quantum dot and microLED display technology. His tenure at ISF Incubator, funded by Intellectual Ventures, involved coaching Silicon Valley entrepreneurs in launching businesses related to AR/VR holographic displays, haptics, and spatial computing.

Before joining ISF Incubator, Dr. Antoniadis held the position of Executive Vice President at Kateeva, where he oversaw technology development projects and collaborated closely with customers to optimize Ink Jet Printing systems for large-scale OLED and QD-OLED display production. His leadership extended to DuPont, where he served as the head of the Silicon Valley Technology Center and as the CTO of DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions. At DuPont, he contributed to next-generation photovoltaic products following the acquisition of Innovalight, where he led the creation of high-efficiency nano silicon-ink processed crystalline silicon solar cells.

Dr. Antoniadis has extensive experience with OLED displays. He has worked on OLED technology development and product management at companies like Osram, HP Labs, and Xerox, holding various engineering and management roles. His work has contributed significantly to the advancement of OLED display technology, making him a respected expert in this area. He has published over 70 technical papers on OLED displays, polymer materials, and photovoltaics, and holds more than 50 patents related to these fields. A native of Greece, he received his B.S. in physics from Ioannina University in Greece, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in solid state physics from Syracuse University.

Sujatha Ramanujan, PhD – Dr. Ramanujan is an experienced executive and serial entrepreneur with 25 years of experience in Consumer Electronics and in Clinical Devices. She has founded, built, and grown three startup businesses in optical communications, cardiac surgical equipment, and nano materials. Additionally, as Product Line Manager and CTO of Pediatric Businesses and Mammography CAD within Carestream and Kodak, her team launched and developed Clinical IT and clinical equipment on every continent.

Dr. Ramanujan has held technical leadership, scientific, and laboratory head positions in GE, Chrysler Corporation, Carestream, Kodak, and Intrinsiq Materials. She has 28 US patents issued. As a corporate investor for Kodak, and then later working with regional investment councils, she provides guidance to investors, vetting of technologies, and M&A strategies for growing businesses. She has served on investment advisories in Canada, US, and Israel. Dr. Ramanujan holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan and is an Executive Board Member of the National Women’s Hall of Fame.

Theodore (Ted) Capossela – Mr. Capossela is an experienced board leader and investor who has successfully overseen the merger and acquisition process of multiple companies. He is a long-term investor, thought leader and serves on the Board of Directors for Queen City Angels. Mr. Capossela has served on multiple QCA portfolio companies' boards including Supply Dynamics Inc., Bert Thin Films Inc., Equilibrium Solar Inc., Guardian Medical Inc., and Healthy Roster Inc.

Mr. Capossela holds a Bachelor of Science Degree – Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University and earned his Professional Engineering license in five states.

He worked 31 years for Contech Engineered Solutions Inc. progressing through various levels of the organization and ultimately being responsible for the company’s largest division which accounted for over half of the company's total $ 900+ million revenue. While working for Contech, he was involved with several M&A processes and he served on the Board of Directions for over 10 years of a major trade Association whose membership comprised over 90% of a $2 billion industry.
